Zac, Mac Attack Leads Reserves to Opening Win

The North Shore Reserves got off to a cracking start to the season with a convincing win against the University of Auckland outfit here at home on Devonport Domain. Coming off a pretty meek display in the last game against the East Coast Bays (practice match), the Reserves rallied together to put in an excellent all round team performance.
The University Captain won the toss and decided to bat first in over cast glum conditions. A bit of rain in the air and a wet ball didn’t help the home side early on with the visitors getting off to a solid start. North Shore however kept their chin up and made sure there were no blunders in the field and it was a blinder by Callum at short cover that lifted the spirits of the homeboys. The comeback followed soon after on the back of an excellent display of seam bowling by Zac (ZM) McEwen in his first outing for the Reserve side snaffling up four wickets. Tim Duncraft chipped in with three scalps of his own with an impressive comeback spell. University sliding from 90/3 to 135 all out.
Mac Chapman (good on you Dubai) opened the innings and held one end strong making sure the home side made it safely across the line with an assured fifty. The middle order however posed a bit of a problem with a mini-collapse taking the sheen of an otherwise comprehensive five wicket win for the Shore.
A performance Tim Swager the new captain was pretty pleased about at the end of the day. Fresh off captaining the Thirds, Tim seeks to bring regularity and team unity in this Reserve side, not the easiest job in the book given the shuffling that the side is exposed to often acting as a feeder to the Premiers. Still the hunger in the players and the ability that he saw on display on Saturday gives the Captain a lot of confidence for a successful season ahead.
